SCY's Core Function
The Society's core function is to ensure that a "child/youth best interests lens" is applied in the development of policies that will affect the lives of young people.
Methods used by SCY to achieve this goal include research, analysis, round table discussions, professional education, resource development plus the preparation of briefs and position statements.
Examples of issue areas addressed:
- Creation of Child and Youth Friendly Communities
- Rights awareness
- Child abuse prevention
- Children as witnesses in the criminal court system
- Child poverty
- Fair play for children in sport
- Child friendly housing
- Children's play and play environments
- School grounds
- Second hand smoke & its effects on children's health
