Happy Holidays
December 2009
Dear Members, Community partners and Friends
As
we prepare to welcome 2010 all of us at the Society for Children
and
Youth of BC would like to thank you for your support and
participation
over the past year. We wish you and your families all
the
best for the holiday season and New Year.
We look forward to
your
continued involvement in the exciting child rights activities &
initiatives
coming up in 2010!
This Holiday
Exercise your Right to Play and Rest
Child
rights can be as simple as going outside to play or staying
home
and making crafts. Article 31 of the UN
Convention on the
Rights
of the Child affirms the right of all children to play and rest.
Ask
a child in your life what her/his favourite activity is and spend
time
enjoying it together over the holidays. Another fun way to
include child rights in the holidays is by
playing this online Know Your
Rights game http://www.childcomwales.org.uk/en/know-your-rights-game/
Speaking
of fun & play check out photos of the crafts that were made a
few
weeks ago at SCY’s Intergenerational Craft Making Event
A Holiday
Meal to Support Child Rights
Not
sure what to do for your holiday dinner?
Why not enjoy a meal at an
award
winning French restaurant and support child rights? Every Tuesday
from
now to January 10th, Bistrot Bistro, at 1961 West 4th Avenue in
Kitsilano
will
be donating 5% of their sales to SCY. For
more information click here
Looking forward to 2010
In
2010 SCY will be launching an Aboriginal Child Friendly Communities
assessment
and planning toolkit for the Early Years along with resources for
youth
rights monitoring and youth with disabilities in conflict with the law.
