Why Child and Youth Friendly?

Why is it important that communities be child and youth friendly?

Children’s health and healthy living is a priority for all levels of government.  “Community” is defined as a broad concept that includes the social, physical and local policy environment.  While more traditional service models focus on individual or group interventions, the role of the broad community/civil society and its importance to children’s health and healthy living is becoming better understood and increasingly evident.  However, better understanding is required as to how the broader community (civil society) impacts the healthy living of children and youth.  The network will encourage leadership and the development and dissemination of tools, best practices, and indicators to help communities measure the degree to which they are ‘child and youth friendly’.
